Vendu à ce jour à plus de 8,8 millions d’exemplaires et comptant actuellement 8 volumes, le manga de Naoya Matsumoto aura droit à sont adaptation animée par la Toho en 2024.
Le manga est publié en France par Crunchyroll Manga (anciennement Kaze) et compte 7 exemplaires de sorti.

Synopsis :

Enfant, Kafka Hibino rêvait d’intégrer les Forces de Défense pour combattre les terribles Kaiju. Mais après de nombreux échecs à l’examen d’entrée, ce trentenaire travaille à nettoyer les rues de leurs encombrants cadavres, jusqu’au jour où une mystérieuse créature s’introduit dans son organisme et le métamorphose en une entité surpuissante mi-humaine, mi-Kaiju. Son nouveau nom de code : Kaiju n° 8.

In Japan, monsters known as Kaiju regularly attack the populace with the Japanese Defense Force tasked with killing them. After their town was destroyed by Kaiju when they were children, childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro both vowed to become members of the Defense Force. Mina has become famous as commander of the Defense Force’s Third Unit, but Kafka has failed the examination numerous times and is a member of the clean up crew, Monster Sweeper Inc., whose job is to dispose of the monsters’ dead bodies after battle. After a small talking monster flies into his body via his mouth, Kafka gains the ability to turn into a monster himself, which gets dubbed « Kaiju No. 8 » by the Defense Force.

Production :

La production de l’animation a été confiée à Production I.G à qui l’ont doit, entre autres, Psycho Pass, Broken Blade et l’épisode « Le Neuvième Jedi » de Star Wars Vision. Le design des monstres et des artworks sera confié au Studio Khara (χαρα) qui a aussi travaillé sur la quadrilogie Rebuild of Evangelion.

Production I.G will work on the animation. They previously worked on Psycho Pass, Broken Blade and « The Ninth Jedi » from Star Wars Vision. The design of the monsters and the artworks will be from Studio Khara (χαρα) who also worked on the Rebuild of Evangelion quadrilogy.
